HTST Plant
The HTST Plant (High Temperature Short Time Pasteurization Plant) is a continuous dairy processing system designed to pasteurize milk rapidly under controlled temperature and time conditions. It uses a combination of plate heat exchangers, holding tubes, pumps, valves, temperature sensors, flow controls, and an automated control system to provide consistent heat treatment while minimizing unnecessary thermal exposure.
Applications
The HTST Plant is widely used in dairy processing plants, milk pasteurization units, milk collection facilities, yogurt plants, cheese factories, ice cream plants, and beverage processing industries. It is suitable for pasteurizing milk and other compatible liquid food products before further processing, storage, or packaging.
Key Benefits
The HTST Plant provides continuous pasteurization, precise temperature control, efficient heat recovery, hygienic processing, and consistent product quality. Its regenerative heat-exchange section can recover heat between incoming and outgoing product streams, helping improve energy efficiency. Automated controls monitor critical process conditions and can operate the system with minimal manual intervention. The compact skid-mounted design also allows convenient integration with storage tanks, homogenizers, filling machines, and other dairy processing equipment.
Construction & Operation
The HTST system generally consists of a balance tank, sanitary feed pump, plate heat exchanger, heating section, holding tube, cooling section, temperature sensors, flow diversion valve, control panel, sanitary piping, valves, and hot-water or steam heating system.
Milk enters the balance tank and is pumped through the heat exchanger. It is progressively heated to the required pasteurization temperature and maintained for the specified holding time in the holding tube. After the required heat treatment, the milk passes through the cooling section, where it is rapidly cooled before being transferred to a storage tank or downstream processing equipment. The automated flow-diversion system can redirect product if the required pasteurization conditions are not achieved.
